Hello again!
Since I am peeping for a trail with a Bride tomorrow I thought I’d post some of my most used products, hints and thoughts on Bridal Makeup. I have to admit Bridal Makeup always makes me the most nervous. This is one of the most important days in my client’s life and it’s on me to make her look perfect….no pressure at all 🙂 As my fellow makeup artists know ultimately it is up to the bride on the look she is going for, and it is our job to make that vision come to life. Still here are some suggestions I like to make to my brides; first think about the vision, colors and theme of your wedding and how you see yourself in it, second is this look something you are going to look back on in pictures and love forever, and third you want to look amazing but you still want to look like you. Again I never push these points, they are suggestions, and I always let my brides know their look is up to them!
For example, when I got married I was convinced I wanted this dramatic smokey, sultry look. That was what I told my makeup artist at my trail (no I did not want to worry about doing my own makeup that day lol) and that was what she gave me. When I left my trial I loved it! Over time the more I looked at the pictures and thought about my wedding, which was a simple, elegant summer wedding, the more and more I didn’t like it. I did something that I wouldn’t suggest to anyone, the day of I decided to change the look completely. I went with something classic and natural with a touch of pink to match my bridesmaids dresses. Again I don’t suggest that, if you are having second thoughts ask your makeup artist for another trail session and make sure you get the look you want. Here are some pics of my bridal makeup and a side by side of the trial look and the final look.
This is the side by side, I think the look I picked suited me and the overall look of my wedding better and my eyes looked much bigger and brighter.
I also get asked a lot, how is my makeup going to stay on and look great for that long. So here are my answers to that with some of my favorite products!
The first thing I never go without for a bride, or really anyone is foundation primer. It sets and holds the foundation, smoothes out your skin, and in some cases can ever do a little color correction. My go to primer that I love love love is Laura Mercier. It comes in regular, oil free, hydrating, a formal for mineral makeup and my favorite for brides the radiance. With the Radiance it just gives your skin a slow glow. I wear it sometimes on its own just for some brightness on my skin if I don’t want to wear makeup.
My second go to is Dior ‘ s airflash foundation or a HD or Photo ready foundation. No one wants to look shiny or oily in their wedding photos. The Dior Airflash gives you a airbrushed foundation look without having the haul around the airbrush machine. I like the Makeup Forever HD Foundation and the Revlon Photo Ready foundation. These foundations have no spf in them and are formulated to make your skin look natural and flawless in photograhs.
My next must haves are all about eyes! Eyeshadow base, my faves are Laura Mercier eye basic, NYX base, Urban Decay Primer potion and Motives base. If you are using color or doing smokey eye and want it to pop use a white or light base, for a neutral look go with something that matches the skin tone. I suggest using gel eyeliner even if it’s not a dramatic liner look it stay on the longest and won’t smudge, my faves are MAC and Laura Mercier. And the last thing for dramatic eyes is false lashes. Go with what your bride is comfortable with, I like natural, but if she wants dramatic go for it!
I hope this post was helpful to brides, future makeup artists, or someone who is helping put a friend for a wedding by doing their makeup!! Please leave comments below and give me a follow if you enjoyed this post!
Till next time, stay beautiful ladies!
